Well, it Could Always be Worse... - Searching for Better

“He’s not beating you.” Said my mother. “He puts a roof over your head and cares for your child. What do you want? It could always be worse.”

And in her words, I heard, I felt, generations of women. Frustration, fear, anger. Because YES, it can always be worse. But what if it could also be better?

When did a women living on her own, caring for herself become shameful? Maybe the question needs to be reframed to ask, when will a women living on her own, caring for herself NOT be perceived as less than. What needs to be done for independence to be essential? Because how can two people come together in mindful relationships if they aren’t independant before?

If they aren’t independent DURING?

What if, just beyond worse, was BETTER?

I hope for my generation that we can move past beyond fear of staying because it is okay, but growing and staying because it is amazing. Because the masculine and feminine are balanced in all of us. Because love IS better.
