A Letter of Apology from my Higher Self

A Letter of Apology from my Higher Self

Dear baby girl,

I’m sorry.

I’m sorry you keep looking outside of yourself for love. For safety. I’m sorry that you don’t trust that I will be able to care for you and love you the way you are loved in your dreams. I know that trust is a big stumbling block between you and other humans, because if you can’t even trust me, who can you trust? For I am you and you are me.

But, I’m grateful for all of the work we are doing together to build that. To connect mind and body through the heart so that we can walk together so that we can embody the love you know you deserve. I know that each time we connect to dismantle the shame and bring the trust home, we are healing the lifetime of miscommunication.

I know that we are on the same team in this very human experience and we will work together to ground into joy for the time you have left. We will work together, with kindness and forgiveness, to live out the second half of your life with a different perspective. Walking hand in hand, instead of me behind you as you cry out for help. Help from the loneliness of drowning in emotions that weren’t always yours.

You are no longer alone, you never were, but the forgetting of that is perhaps the cruelest (and most necessary) part of being in a body. But now that you have remembered, I will be your ever-present pathway to the divine, as you are my gateway to Mother Earth.

Thank you dear body for choosing me to go on this adventure with you.

This was written in response to a writing prompt from Jeff Brown in the style of his Apologies to My Body and Apologies to the Battered Child. I so appreciated the framework, and I loved what came out, so I included it here in its original form.
